Adult Child Maintenance
Victoria acted for the Mother of a special needs adult. The adult child required significant financial and non-financial support. The Mother was the sole carer of the adult child. The Father, while of significant financial resources, was not prepared to agree to provide the required financial support.
Victoria had to litigate the matter in Court on behalf of the Mother. During the litigation, Victoria in collaboration with the client made tactical decisions that reduced the final hearing from days to a day. This significantly reduced costs for the client.
The Court awarded judgment in the Mother’s favour and required the Father to pay adult maintenance including years of “back pay” to compensate the Mother for the Father’s failed obligations. Victoria was also successful in having the Court award costs against the Father.
